Sancton Wood School was founded in 1976 by its present Headmistress, Mrs Jill Sturdy, to provide an excellent quality of academic and pastoral care for children from 3 years to 16 years of age. The school is fully co-educational and is within easy reach of the many facilities and amenities offered by the city of Cambridge. Our links with the University and the City reflect the cosmopolitan nature of the local community. The staff at Sancton Wood are all highly qualified and committed teachers who, through a structured and formal education programme, endeavour to make each pupil aware of his or her innate qualities and skills and to use these to his or her full capability.
Sancton Wood enjoys an excellent working atmosphere, achieving 100% GCSE Pass Rate. Small class numbers ensure that each child is known and understood and receives individual attention with which to develop individual talents. The caring, yet challenging teaching environment provides a setting in which children have the confidence to develop formal skills in literacy and numeracy. This complements the broad and balanced curriculum offered in a wide range of subjects, including French and German from the age of 6 years and Latin 11 years. Sancton Wood has a reputation for instilling good manners, reliability and self-discipline. The staff promote strong links between home and school by way of regular parent meetings and biannual written reports. The Headmistress is readily available for consultation and welcomes the opportunity to remain in close contact with all parents and children. The Parent Teacher Association provides an excellent forum for discussion and communication through its regular meetings and social events. Sancton Wood provides a teaching and learning environment where confidence can be built up and each child is encouraged to live a fulfilled life in the years ahead and to make a happy and positive contribution to society.
